TheSearchersWorld Interactive site goes live!

Hello friends and family! Well, it's been a TON of work (with more still yet to do), but the interactive Flash website I've been building for my children's book The Searcher is finally live. I owe a big thank you to my instructor Gus Torres, to David Walters (without whose help I would not have finished I am very sure), my parents who helped me by loaning me their laptop on which to work, and my beautiful, helpful, supportful wife Angela.

Be sure to click on and mouse over all the characters, there are hidden sounds and animations. I'll be adding more downloads in the days to come (right now there is just one single maze available to download), like coloring book pages, puzzles, and more mazes.

It's been a loooooong three months, but it's worth it. I hope you will enjoy it.

Have fun. -- Ryan

Thoughts on Loss....

Well, for those of you who don't already know, which should be few, our little one we were expecting went to be with Jesus on March 6th. It's been a rocky few days, but with an underlying steady foundation. Our hearts are broken, but held together even while in pieces by the love of a heavenly Father who sees, hears, and knows our hearts. He has not failed us. Even in our grief, He has given us no choice but to feel His strong arms wrapped around us - through His promises, and through our family and friends (you!).
This may sound odd to some of you, but it has been a part of my processing this, and surprised me a little. While I was undoubtedly more than just a little excited to find out we were expecting our first child, there was a part of me that was disappointed that I wasn't MORE excited. That is the part that may sound odd. The thing is, I've walked through so many of my friends' pregnancies with them, that I felt I already knew what to expect - that the "new" had already worn off, even though I'd never been through the experience first-hand. I have to say, after having lost such a precious gift, if we are to be so blessed in the future, that "new" glow is going to be fresh every day until we are able to meet our child in the flesh!
That little tidbit aside, I still long for what might have been - for that little one that was, well - is, our child, but that we will never hold here on earth. I look forward to the day when I step through to eternity and see a face that I've never seen before, but already know - smiling and welcoming me home.
Thank you all for loving us enough to walk with us through the peaks and valleys. We can't express how much we love you.

News on "The Searcher"

There's a blog article over on HP Apps about how my book "The Searcher" was turned into a nifty little download. The hope is that those click throughs will result in a few book sales. Click here or on the book cover image to go check it out.

For those of you in the family, I'll soon be uploading the fully functioning interactive website at www.thesearchersworld.com. It's going to be a lot of fun for kids, with coloring book pages, mazes, and puzzles for them to download. Keep an eye on it, and download some stuff for your kids. The whole idea is to create some fun stuff for kids. God bless, -- Ryan

Amaryllis Valentines Day Surprise

My Aunt Lu gave us a Amaryllis plant for Christmas. We started watering it sometime in January, and lo and behold it bloomed! The blooms burst forth in all their red glory on Valentines day, which was sort of a nice surprise.

Valentine's Day

well, today is our very first ever valentine's day married to each other. i used to be one of those people who thought valentine's day was pretty lame - you know, created by hallmark, blah-blah, etc. etc.... today? well, i still think it's just a little cheesy, but it's also good to take a day to tell your sweetheart how much you love him (or her, as the case may be). so far we've taken ryan movie shopping (one of his all-time favorite things) and will be watching the carefully-selected choice following a lovely ryan-grilled steak and shrimp dinner. we say we've gone that route because we don't have the money for going out, but really, we both prefer sitting at home together with no shoes and cozy blankies to fighting the crowds just to have someone else cook. take today to squeeze those you love, whether you're married or not. :) HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!

Time Flies....

Well, we certainly had a fun Halloween party with many friends and family (and dogs), great food, and a gaggle of girls spending the night! Suddenly I find that we're nearing Thanksgiving! This year we're planning on spending Thursday with Ryan's family, as well as visiting a couple of our "other" families - those we've adopted or who've adopted us at some point in time... And then on Friday we'll be hosting Thanksgiving for Angela's family - how fitting that it worked out that our first married Thanksgiving will be Angela's first time preparing the turkey. No pressure! But most of all we're looking forward to spending more time around our families - the preparations can sometimes be stressful, but when it comes down to it, it's not the food or the decorations that matter so much, nor are they what will be remembered.....
